The best reasons to travel to Riviera Maya

Recently, ForwardKeys announced Cancun as the second most visited destination in the world, right behind Dubai. ForwardKeys is a travel consulting company that reviews the # of boarding passes purchased throughout the world.

It doesn't come as a surprise after gathering data from Heart of the Caribbean travelers over the past 2 years that it is our #1 booked destination. Before staying at Secrets Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon back in 2016, I had never been to Mexico. To be honest, I had some hesitation about visiting the country based on family biases (my father was in the military) and media sensationalism. To say it's a magical wonderland for adults and kids alike would be an understatement.

Here are some of our top reasons to visit Riviera Maya for your next vacation:

1. There are hundreds of all-inclusive resorts. Looking for a romantic honeymoon destination? A family-friendly resort with a waterpark? How about an eco-friendly resort focused on conserving the environment? Ready to party hard for a bachelor/bachelorette party? Want a luxurious and romantic resort for your honeymoon? Are you just looking to get away and have a smaller budget? Or do you want to splurge and stay somewhere with incredible spa treatments? It's all there for you.

2. The excursions! There is SO much to do. From visiting archeological sites of the Mayan civilization (such as Tulum & Chichen Itza) to swimming in Cenotes (caves with crystal clear water) to ATV-ing, ziplining, sailing, catamaran-ing, horseback riding, swimming with sharks, visiting islands off the coast, watching sea turtles hatch and going in a submarine. Did we mention the eco-parks such as Xel-Ha and Xcaret? There will be absolutely no shortage of things for you to do.

3. The people & culture. We all know (and love) tacos. One of the appeals of visiting Mexico is its passionate music and incredible food. Did we mention, the margaritas?!

Visiting Mexico guarantees warm weather and beautiful landscapes. With hundreds of all-inclusive resorts catering to really anything you're looking for; found in all price ranges mixed with a plethora of excursions and the natural beauty of the region, it's a place you will want to visit over and over. Have you been before? What was your favorite part?
